Online Reiki: Why I Love It (And My 5 Tips for a Transformative Treatment)

Online Reiki: I just love it.
I’d go as far as saying I prefer online Reiki to in-person Reiki, which might surprise some of you.
Why online Reiki is MY treatment of choice:
You don’t have to leave your house or travel to online Reiki.
Online Reiki is great for me, because sometimes I can be a little bit of a hermit, especially in the winter. I am more likely to do something that's online if it's going to give me the same benefits.
There's no travel to online Reiki appointments.
Commuting means travel costs, extra time, checking petrol, stress if there's traffic...I'd rather not have any of that to worry about.
My chronic pain.
I have fibromyalgia and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, both of which cause chronic pain. I find it difficult to get comfy and relax my body in rooms that aren't tailored to me. No matter how beautiful, luxurious, and relaxing treatment rooms are, they are never going to be as comfortable as my bed.
Online Reiki gives you more time.
Most of us are time-poor. If I can save a few minutes here and there on getting to an appointment, then I will. Every minute helps in a busy society. And whilst part of the idea of having Reiki is to allow yourself time to stop, I am more likely to allow that me-time if I know I haven't got to add another 20 minutes on top of it to travel. Online Reiki is more convenient, which unfortunately fits into this Amazon Prime era.
Childcare.
Prioritising your own needs is never at the top of the list, more so when you have children. Arranging childcare, especially so we can take time for ourselves, just seems like too much faff. Having online Reiki whilst the kids are asleep is one less thing to organise.
No rushing off when its finished.
Picture this; your in-person Reiki has finished, you're lay on the therapy bed feeling cosy, warm, and tired, you're deeply relaxed...now you have to get up, put your shoes on, and get home whilst your Reiki practitioner prepares for the next client. It can be a bit of a slap back to reality. With online Reiki, it doesn't matter when your appointment time is over, you can lie there for as long as you need.

Here are my top 5 tips for preparing for your online Reiki session
1. Prepare your space for online Reiki.
You don't need to do anything extravagant. Light a candle, turn on a lamp, shut the blinds. Put a big glass of water nearby and grab a blanket. You could even have a notebook and pen ready so you can jot down your experience afterwards. By doing all of this, you are telling your brain that it’s time to wind down and have some respite.
2. Ensure you’ll have no disruptions during your online Reiki session.
Tell anyone that might disturb you that you have an appointment and can’t be disturbed. Turn your phone off or to silent (including turning vibrate off!). And maybe don’t time the food shopping delivery to arrive during your online Reiki. Some things can't be multi-tasked!
3. Use music throughout your online Reiki treatment.
Choose something calming that resonates with you and relaxes you. Ideally, listen to it through headphones/earphones to block out any outside noise or disturbances. I like to use natural water sounds on Spotify.
4. Get comfortable. Really comfortable.
On your bed, sofa, chair, whatever works for you. Ensure your body is comfortable. Use pillows, blankets, bolsters. Have extra blankets to hand in case you feel cold. Put on your loosest, comfiest clothing.
5. Prepare yourself energetically.
Arrive with an open mind and an open heart. Take some long, deep breaths to relax yourself. Focus on your physical body. Set intentions that you are going to receive healing energy during your online Reiki treatment.
This blog is absolutely not intended to discourage anyone from choosing in-person treatments over online Reiki.
It's not one or the other. What this blog is meant to do is highlight the options available so that everyone, regardless of location or circumstance, has the opportunity to receive the healing benefits of Reiki.
Face-to-face contact can be incredibly valuable for those who benefit from physical presence, connection, and the unique energy exchange that happens in a shared Reiki space.
Many people face challenges leaving their homes, whether due to mobility issues, chronic or life-limiting illnesses, or being housebound. Online Reiki offers them the opportunity to receive healing and support from the comfort and safety of their own space.
The beauty of Reiki is it’s person-centered. Whether you choose to have online Reiki or in-person Reiki, you are going to reap the amazing benefits. If you haven't tried them both, then I highly recommend doing so for comparison! Everyone has their preference, but they both work wonders.
