Wellbeing Coaching: What ISN’T It?


Wellbeing coaching - similar to life coaching - is not therapy or counselling. It is not a medical appointment with a diagnosis (and is certainly not a substitute for that). It is not me telling you what you should or shouldn't be doing. It’s also not a one-size-fits-all quick fix approach. It’s about implementing changes that will have long term positive effects on your overall health, wellbeing, and life. If you want someone to control your choices and give you a magic quick fix solution, then coaching is probably not for you.


Wellbeing Coaching: What Is It?


Wellbeing coaching (or health & wellbeing coaching, life coaching, holistic coaching…) provides a non-judgemental space to clear out the rubbish and supports you in focusing on the potential. Just as a football coach can help a football team excel in a match, a wellbeing coach can help you excel at living your best life, no matter what your circumstances.


Feeling stuck? Chronic illness? Financial struggles? Mental health issues? Weight gain? Stress or burnout? Work-life imbalance? You deserve to flourish and live as your happiest version; nothing and nobody should hold you back. Breaking news: you only get one chance at life! This is where wellbeing coaching steps in.


Wellbeing coaching helps you gain the knowledge, tools, skills, and - most importantly - the confidence to become an active participant in reaching your self-identified health and wellbeing goals. I will be there every step of the way as your guide and cheerleader.

There’s no time like the present to prepare for tomorrow. Your future self will really appreciate it! We need to focus on lifestyle and habitual changes, rather than quick fixes, which don't stand the test of time. We live in an Amazon Prime era so it may feel hard to step back and go slowly, but research says this is the most effective way when making changes.


I strongly believe that everyone has the potential to make big changes to improve their life, no matter what their background, upbringing, or circumstances.

I grew up in a low-income household, with mental and physical health struggles. To say my family could be the next Netflix documentary would genuinely be an understatement. I lost my job in the NHS of 16 years due to my chronic pain conditions affecting my eyes and had to restart a new career. Some things I have been through in life could have defeated me, but haven’t.


Focusing on my wellbeing through mindful and wellbeing techniques has helped me cultivate a positive mindset, leading to the contentment and happiness I enjoy today. Of course I still have my chronic pain conditions, but the way I manage them now has been life-changing. Sometimes it isn't about the illness itself, but the way you change your perspective. As a health and wellbeing coach I can support you change your mentality, but also holistics to encourage your body’s natural healing and treat your mind and body as a whole.


What Does The “Wellbeing Coaching” Programme Entail?


I have undertaken an NHS/PCI accredited training course to gain my qualification as a "Health & Wellbeing Coach". I use tools and techniques taught to me within this training that have proven successful results. The wellbeing coaching sessions are infused with holistic and wellness knowledge and tips, all from my personal experience and my holistic training.


Every client has a person-centered plan because life is not a one-size-fits-all. We will co-create the life you desire, you’ll have freedom of choice and full control of your next steps. We will take the wellbeing coaching at your pace because it’s not going to work if you're not in the driver's seat.

If you choose the Reiki Health & Wellbeing Coaching service, you will supercharge your wellbeing coaching sessions. I have created a unique hybrid of Reiki and wellbeing coaching, which is unlike anything else out there. I’ve developed this with your mind-body connection at the forefront.

How Does Adding In Reiki Up-Level The Wellbeing Coaching?


After our coaching session, I’ll give you a Reiki treatment to support the progress we've made together. After a long discussion, opening up emotionally, thinking about your life, and planning changes, it will be perfectly natural to feel overwhelmed. There is a lot to think about and to process when you have coaching; you have the space to talk about things you might not have spoken about in great depth before.


Finishing your wellbeing coaching session off with Reiki will have impactful benefits:

  • Reiki helps to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and digest” mode), allowing you to get into a deep relaxation. This will release any physical or mental tension that might have built up during the coaching session.

  • Coaching can bring up emotional blocks or unresolved issues to the surface; Reiki works to clear stagnant energy and blocks.

  • Reiki can help clear your mind and provide clarity, which makes it easier to take inspired action and stay focused on your goals

  • Reiki works to balance and restore the body’s energy system, which can lead to an increase in overall vitality and wellbeing. You’ll feel recharged and empowered to take on new challenges if that's what you want.

  • This combination of Reiki and wellbeing coaching creates a powerful, holistic approach that empowers you to make lasting change, rather than just temporary quick-fixes. It will help you feel more balanced, and align your energy with your goals. The result is a deeper, more fulfilling transformation.


What Can You Expect From A Wellbeing Coaching Programme?


My "Wellbeing Coaching” session lasts an hour and a “Reiki & Wellbeing Coaching” is 1 hour 45 minutes. Both programmes include 4 sessions, but of course you can add more if you want extra support. You can choose to have your sessions face-to-face in my beautifully relaxing treatment room (in Redditch, Worcestershire), or via video link from the comfort of your own home. Reiki can be in-person or remotely, known as “distance Reiki”, or "online Reiki".


In your first wellbeing coaching session, there will be lots of getting to know each other, discussing expectations, your current reality, making a personalised treatment plan and discussing topics to figure out your goals. Your follow-up sessions will be really getting into the nitty-gritty of what you want, what’s not working, and what changes you can implement to get to your desired destination. It’s also about discussing what you realistically can’t implement. Most importantly, it is all led by you, for you.

We might scroll social media and compare ourselves to influencers’ posts and think, “if they can do that every day, then why can’t I?” I’ll tell you why: you’re not an influencer. (Sorry!) Of course they can set unrealistic expectations; it’s their job. Your job might be as a personal trainer. It would be silly of me to compare my body with yours, when I exercise for half an hour 3 times a week and you’re burning off 300 calories an hour at work showing clients how to squat. (I hope this doesn’t demoralise what a personal trainer does, I really have no idea!) What I’m saying, in a very long-winded way, is that we will put things into perspective and set realistic goals that suit your lifestyle, not someone else's.


If you level-up with the “Reiki & Wellbeing Coaching”, you will get a full Reiki treatment after our coaching session finishes. You can have a toilet break, water, snack, whatever you need to ensure you are comfortable before we start your Reiki treatment.


Which Wellbeing Coaching Programme Should I Choose?


Ultimately, that is entirely your choice. What do you have the capacity for when it comes to life coaching? What can you afford? What are your goals? There will no doubt be questions I haven't answered here, and this is why I also offer a free no-obligation telephone consultation. We can have a conversation and discuss what you feel fits into your lifestyle.


Can I Have Just A One-Off Wellbeing Coaching Session?


Of course, a one off session might be just the motivation you need. It can provide you with fresh perspective and quick guidance. It gives you a taste of what coaching is if you aren’t ready to commit to a programme. People who embark on a coaching programme then find it really helpful to have the option of a one-off session a few months later. It can make you feel like you’re being held accountable and keep your motivation levels up.

The downside of having a one-off session if you haven't first experienced a coaching programme is you don’t quite get the time to reach the depth to create lasting change. One session may not be enough to build sustainable habits and it will be easy to revert to old patterns if you don't have ongoing support in the form of a follow up.


Wellbeing coaching works best over a period of time, however, a one-off session can still be valuable, offering clarity, guidance, and actionable steps to help you move forward.
